With the launch of our newly updated website we, at AgRecycle, unanimously felt it was most appropriate to spotlight Bella Sera Event Villa and Catering as our inaugural featured customer of the quarter. Bella Sera along with its then sister property, Bella Sera Urban Trattoria, were the Pittsburgh area’s first nationally certified Green Restaurants and the first restaurants in western Pennsylvania to divert food scraps and other compostable items to AgRecycle.
Bella Sera Event Villa is a stunning event venue located 25 minutes south of Pittsburgh just a mile from Route 79 and Southpointe. Built with weddings and celebrations in mind, Bella Sera hosts a variety of corporate, social and charitable events each year. Situated on seven acres, guests are surrounded by trees, beautifully landscaped gardens, and a serene pond with waterfalls. The indoor space features a vintage wine cellar, sweeping stairway and large stone fireplace amidst multiple rooms which can accommodate groups of all sizes.
Recognized as the first certified green venue in Pennsylvania, the venue is extremely proud of its 3-Star certified by the Green Restaurant Association and Silver designation with the Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant program. As a tribute to his Gramma Greco’s sustainable lifestyle, Owner/Chef Jason Capps immediately felt a connection to “Going Green” when introduced to the Green Restaurant Association in 2007. The idea of recycling and composting was not popular throughout the restaurant industry at the time, but Jason knew it was something that he wanted to introduce at Bella Sera.
Their sustainable efforts include an ongoing and complete recycling and composting initiative, flow regulators for all faucets—which reduce water usage by 40%, and motion-censored lighting throughout to help cut costs and reduce energy usage. These efforts have allowed Bella Sera to provide a healthy environment within the region and set the standard for excellence in their field.
AgRecycle is proud to inform you that since becoming our customer in November of 2009, Bella Sera has diverted approximately 2,080,000 pounds of food scraps and other compostable items away from landfills to reuse through composting. A commitment far eclipsing all others in this area.
Bella Sera is celebrating their 13th year in business and was voted Best of Weddings by The Knot and Wedding Wire for six consecutive years, and they recently took the title for Best Event Venue & Best Wedding Venue in Washington County, by the Observer-Reporter. With a new restaurant venture into the heart of Southpointe, Bella Sera is expanding its reach and remaining on the front edge of sustainability in their region.
